Chapter plans banquet


DANVILLE — The Progressive Danville Chapter of Blacks In Government (BIG) will host its 19th annual Black Tie Affair Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Days Hotel, 77 N. Gilbert.

Emma Metcalf will be the main speaker for the semi-formal banquet and awards ceremony. Metcalf is the director at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System. At the event, an individual or organization will receive the chapter’s Image & Excellence Award. Also, scholarships will be given out to deserving ethnic minority students in the area.

The group is also looking for patrons for its 2012 Ad Program Booklet.

Recording available

The Vermilion Festival Chorus has compact discs from its Nov. 18 concert available for a $10 donation. Contact Gene Schroeder, chorus manager, at 446-7543 by Nov. 30.

Education meetings set

Meetings have been scheduled to discuss Danville School District 118’s Ownership in Education Manual. A committee of principals, parents, teachers and community members will discuss the manual and recommend changes or additions.

Meetings will take place on the following dates:

--Tuesday — 6 p.m., Danville High School library

--Jan. 10, 2013 — 6 p.m., school library

--Feb. 12, 2013 — 6 p.m., school library

Forums will take place on the following dates:

--March 5, 2013 — 6 p.m., North Ridge Middle School

--March 7, 2013 — 6 p.m., South View Middle School

A final meeting will take place in April.

CRIS plans ‘Wake Up’

CRIS Healthy-Aging Center and Provena United Samaritans Medical Center will offer a special focus on health at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Sister Joanne Vander-Heyden of the pastoral department at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center will present tips on the emotional aspects of “Coping with the Holidays.”

Attendees can enjoy a full, nutritious, cooked-to-order breakfast from 6:30-9:30 a.m. and meet with health care professionals from Provena, who are available to take blood pressures and help with questions on medications and nutrition.

Greenhouse opening set

The public is invited to the grand opening of the Northeast School greenhouse at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The 432-square foot greenhouse was donated by International Greenhouse Company. The donation was made at the Danville Public School Foundation’s 365 Club Breakfast in January.

Fraker to give Lincoln talk

Guy C. Fraker will speak and sign copies of his book, “Lincoln’s Ladder to the Presidency,” from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Vermilion County Museum, 116 N. Gilbert St.

Fraker, an attorney in Bloomington, has researched Lincoln’s life in the Central Illinois’ Eighth Judicial Circuit, and will talk about his days in Danville.

Moose to serve burgers

The Loyal Order of Moose Fraternity will serve Jack’s cheeseburgers or chicken strips with fries or onion rings from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the lodge, U.S. Route 150. Price: $5.

Nurses to have party

St. Elizabeth Hospital nurses’ annual Christmas party will start at noon Dec. 3 at Red Lobster. Reservations are due by Friday, Nov. 30.

Antiquarians to meet

The Antiquarians will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Catlin City Building, 109 S. Sandusky. Program will be “model trains” by Don Evans.


Holiday open house set

Covington’s Christmas Open House will take place from 5-8 p.m. EST Friday, Nov. 30, at Friendship Circle Center, 1307 Pearl St. The event will feature holiday music and a meal at 5 p.m. There will also be goodie bags, door prizes and tours.


Church plans bazaar

The Indianola Methodist Church ladies will have their annual Christmas Bazaar and Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

Menu includes: biscuits and gravy, breakfast casseroles, fruit, sweet breads and drink for a freewill donation.

The bazaar will feature different crafts and homemade treats such as candy, cookies. pies, breads and jellies.


Firefighters set auction

The Perrysville Fire Department will have a holiday auction starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the fire station.

Name-brand items will be for sale, including tools, toys, candles, candy and food, home décor, house wares, blankets, purses, swords and knives, wrapping paper and more. Fore more information, call (765) 363-0755.

--The historic Ritz Theatre will show a Christmas movie at 7 p.m. EST

Dec. 1

--The historic Ritz Theatre will show a Christmas movie at 4 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. EST.

--Santa’s Lil Secret Shoppe will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

--Clark’s Reception Hall will feature a Christmas bazaar.

--The lighting of the community Christmas tree will be at 6 p.m. EST at the courthouse square. Carolers, Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves will be in the Hot Chocolate House from 5:30-6:30 p.m. EST Santa will be available starting at 5 p.m. EST.

--Santa and his elves will host cookies and coloring from 10-11:30 a.m. EST at the Rockville Public Library.

--Parke Players will perform “The Nutcracker” at 2 EST and 5 p.m. EST

Santa House scheduled

Psi Iota Xi will host its annual Santa House from 9 a.m. EST to noon EST Dec. 1 at Southeast Fountain Elementary School. Admission: $2.50 per child, free for adults. There will be games, pictures with Santa, a cookie walk, prizes, crafts and more.


Department plans supper

Jackson Township Fire Department will have its annual Chili Supper and Raffle from 4-8 p.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 1.

Supper price is a freewill donation. Raffle tickets for cash prizes are $5 for one, $10 for three or $20 for seven. There will be numerous other prizes.


Church plans bazaar

Trinity United Church of Christ, 311 Moses Ave., will host its annual Christmas bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. There will be a bake sale, vendors and white elephant sale. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Menu includes barbecue, hot dogs, soup and dessert.

School seeks nominations

Westville High School is seeking nominations for the Westville Wall of Fame. The wall is to honor those who have demonstrated extraordinary achievements in their profession and communities.

Nomination forms for the inaugural honorees may be picked up at the main office of the high school. They may also be printed out from the district website, or from the Westville High School Alumni page.
