Two children hospitalized after near-drowning incidents

DANVILLE — Two children were hospitalized following back-to-back near drowning incidents Monday night and Tuesday.

Emergency personnel responded around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to Your Family Resource Connection, 201 N. Hazel St., to a report of a child pulled from the pool at the facility.

Police arrived to find employees conducting CPR on an 11-year-old girl at the pool. The girl was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment before being transferred to a Champaign-Urbana hospital.

According to Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason, the girl and a male parent had gone to the pool to swim. They had split up to go through the appropriate male and female locker rooms.

The male emerged to find the girl on the bottom of the pool, Thomason indicated. She was immediate retrieved.

The girl’s condition was not known late Tuesday afternoon, according to Thomason. The facility does not employ a lifeguard but signs around the pool area restrict anyone under the age of 18 from swimming without a guardian.

This incident follows another near-drowning incident that happened Monday night at a residence along Hampton Road.

Police responded to the home after family members discovered a 3-year-old boy in the pool there.

According to Thomason, the child went outside after the evening meal. He was found at the bottom of the pool after another child asked about him.

The boy also was taken to Presence USMC and then airlifted to a hospital in Champaign-Urbana where he was listed in critical condition as of late Tuesday afternoon.
