Red Mask Players offer holiday performance

---- — DANVILLE — The Red Mask Players will present the Christmas comedy, “The Christmas Thieves,” by Greg Oliver Bodine.

The show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Kathryn Randolph Theater, 601 N. Vermilion St. Tickets are $10 at the door for festival seating. No reservations will be taken.

Jennifer Lee Kirby will direct the five-member cast comprised of Tim Kirby as Bjorn Gundlarrsen; Chad Myler as Mac; Barb Whaling as Madge; Trudy Wolfe as Rosie; and Bob Hous as Old Man Saltzpeter.

The play is set in America’s heartland on Christmas Eve, and radio host Bjorn Gundlarrsen is prepared for the telethon that will keep his tiny polka radio station from going disco.

Unfortunately, the British actors he has hired have fallen ill after lunching at the local eatery. With time running out, will Bjorn be able to save the show? After all, it’s not like Christmas is known for miracles.

Donna Sant, who is handling publicity for the Red Mask Players, said the storyline is one that “will appeal to all ages.”

She also hinted at a surprise before the main performance starts.

“We’re having a surprise little pre-show,” she said. “We’re going to have some guest appearances.”

This isn’t the first time the Red Mask Players has offered a special Christmas show besides its usual lineup of annual performances.

“We started doing Christmas shows a few years back,” she said. “This is our fourth or fifth year to have something different. We have a pretty good turnout.”

Sant said the extra Christmas performance is a fundraiser for Red Mask.

“It helps us to raise money to maintain the theater and to help with the organization,” she said.

Earlier this year, the auditorium was renovated with new seating and flooring.

“We’re eager to show off our new auditorium,” Sant said.
