Water main breaks keep Aqua busy

DANVILLE — Water main breaks kept Aqua Illinois busy during the New Year’s holiday.

Two water main breaks were reported in the 400 block of Swisher Avenue and in Denvale West near Park Haven Boulevard and Fairway Drive.

Water was shut off for a time, and some residents saw some discoloration with their water.

With the cold weather, the water pulled out of the river is cold and makes the pipes colder. The frost and thaw process and pressures on pipes make them brittle. A pipe breaks due to a weak spot, Aqua Illinois officials have previously said.

Bob Ervin, area manager with Aqua Illinois, said there were no other pressure problems, and no health issues.
