---- — DANVILLE — Burlington store manager Kathy Collier of Rossville can’t stop smiling when talking about the large variety of items for sale at great prices at the new store opening Friday in the Village Mall.

She also wants people to know the store has a lot more than coats, an item the store is known for.

Burlington, a leading national off-price retailer, is opening its location at the Village Mall, 2917 Vermilion St., on Friday.

The retailer will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate jobs, community and shopping at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Mayor Scott Eisenhauer and Vice Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. will join the store leadership and associates to officially open the new location.

Along with the ceremony, Burlington will host its philanthropic program, Burlington Gives Back. The program is dedicated to donating new merchandise to local charitable agencies in communities surrounding Burlington locations. The retailer’s national non-profit partner, Fashion Delivers, is working with the new store to make a contribution of five pallets of merchandise to the Danville Salvation Army.

Collier said there is luggage, baby items and a lot more on the pallets.

Prior to its grand opening, there will be a preview day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday for customers who make a donation to either the Boys & Girls Club of Danville or Presence United Samaritans Medical Center’s Foundation.

For a $5 or more donation, shoppers can receive a special Burlington VIP Shopping Pass good for 15 percent off their purchases the day before the grand opening.

Boys & Girls Club director Rob Gifford said all proceeds from the coupons the club sells goes back to the club for operations. The coupon can be purchased at the club, 850 N. Griffin St., and from club board members. Gifford said any donations help the club.

“Burlington only chooses two organizations to participate, so we were thrilled to be one of the groups they approached to participate,” said Angie Lazzell, special projects coordinator for Presence United Samaritans Medical Center’s Foundation, in a press release. “It’s wonderful when a new store comes to town and immediately shows support for local non-profits.”

Funds generated from the VIP Pass sale for the foundation will benefit its outreach programs such as Faith in Action, HALO Project, I Sing the Body Electric and others. Passes are on sale at the foundation office, 551 N. Logan Ave. in Danville.

Collier said the store offers unique purchasing options for customers, including sizes of clothes shoppers might not be able to find in other stores. She said the store has a nice selection of juniors clothing, including plus sizes, and also plus size little girls clothing, husky sizes for boys and petite women’s clothing. There’s a big and tall section for men, expansive house wares area including pots and pans, bedding and bathroom items and large shoe and active wear sections.

Collier said a customer can try out one pot or pan for a great price and then decide later on if they want a whole set of them.

She said the store will receive new items on trucks Monday through Thursday.

“Every day it will be like Christmas,” she said about not knowing what items they will get.

The Baby Depot area also is expansive, with cribs, strollers, car seats, clothing and everything a family needs for a newborn.

“It is a full store,” Collier said. “We have merchandise for everybody. We have great brands ... at great deals.”

She said the value and variety of items in the store will be hard to beat.

Store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. everyday. There will be expanded holiday hours.

Collier also is proud to tout the local management team the store has and its friendly employees. The store employs 60 people.
