DANVILLE — A young child died as a result of an late night fire in Danville on Saturday.
Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason issued a statement this morning confirming the death of the 3-year-old girl.
City firefighters responded around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to the fire in a two-story home at 1208 N. Franklin St. According to Thomason, personnel arriving on scene found flames throughout the first floor of the home.
The mother of the three-year-old girl as well as another three-year-old child escaped the home by crawling out a second-story window, according to reports from the scene of the blaze. A couple of adults in the home at the time also escaped.
The little girl, however, was unable to escape the home. A name of the child has not been released by the Vermilion County Coroner's Office.
The mother and other child were taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment of injuries. No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire, according to Thomason.
Danville firefighters handling the blaze brought the fire under control in about 45 minutes, but were unable to enter prior to that as a result of the heavy smoke and flames.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the Danville Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
