Tilton board OKs plan for electrical aggregation program

TILTON — As a result of village voters approving the municipal aggregation referendum in the April 9 election, village trustees approved an ordinance Thursday night for a village electricity aggregation program.

The ordinance contains a plan of operation and governance. The board also approved a resolution that allows the village to execute an agreement with the lowest responsible bidder for the supply of electricity for residential and small commercial and retail customers. Any person or business that wishes to do so, may opt-out of the program and keep their existing electricity provider.

Residents are reminded that even if they participate in the village electrical aggregation program, they will continue to receive only one monthly bill from Ameren.

In order to fully explain how the program will operate, the village and its energy consultant, Good Energy, LLC of Peoria, will conduct two public meetings on April 30. The first meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and the second meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Board members also approved the official start date of May 13 as the date improvements will begin on the rebuilding of 14th Street. The board learned that any delays in that start date could cost the village considerable costs as well as loss of a good portion of the 2013 construction season.

In other board action, trustees:

Approved the sale of Lot 7 in the Southgate subdivision and 8 Hodge Street to Glass Doctor Co. of Danville for one dollar. The firm plans to relocate its Danville business to a new building planned for the site.

Learned of the village-wide rummage sale set for May 25. Persons wishing to participate can pay a $5 fee to be included on the map, with noon on May 22 as the deadline to sign up at the village hall.

Learned that the village clean up day for village residents only will be June 8 from 8 a.m. 2 p.m. Dumpsters will be located in the park and residents who wish to dump must have a legal identification with their name and address on it. Senior citizens who wish to participate may call the village hall at 477-0800 to register and have their items at the curb on June 3.

Will recess the meeting until 6 p.m. May 1 to swear in newly-elected officials and for mayor’s appointments including the plan commission which will increase to seven members with two alternates.

What’s next

Tilton Village Board members will reconvene at 6 p.m. May 1 to swear in newly elected officials and for mayor’s appointments. This will be the only scheduled meeting for May.
