Liberty Lane to close

DANVILLE — The city of Danville announces that due to road improvements, Liberty Lane will be closed at the railroad crossing between Ferndale and Independence Drive.

The road closure is anticipated to begin at 7 a.m. today and will be closed until completion, weather permitting.

For more information, contact the superintendent of Streets and Sewers.

Company dinner planned

General Electric/Valmont Electric has planned its Christmas dinner for 1 p.m. CST Dec. 2 at the Harrison Park Clubhouse. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Those planning to attend need to make reservations by Nov. 24. Call Carol at 431-0287 or Jan at 474-4837.

Tanner to speak via Skype

Retired astronaut and Danville native Joe Tanner will share his experiences in space via Skype for Danville Public Library’s “Local Connections” film and discussion series.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. today in the first floor meeting room with a showing of the 1995 docudrama “Apollo 13.” Discussion will follow with astronaut Tanner. The program is free.

Kiwanis plan luncheon

The Danville Noon Kiwanis will host a buffet luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Days Hotel, 77 N. Gilbert.

Doug Whitley, president and CEO of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, will speak. Price: $10. For reservations contact Bob Fox at 446-1122 or foxdenone@sbcglobal by noon Monday. Attendees may pay at the door.

Chapter meets today

The Progressive Danville Chapter of Blacks in Government will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Laura Lee Fellowship House.

Topics: nomination committee report, chapter officers (president and secretary); chapter membership drive site to be determined.

Lions to hear speaker

Amy Marchant, executive director of CRIS Healthy Aging Center, will speak to the Danville Lions Club at noon Tuesday at the Days Hotel, 77 N. Gilbert.
