DANVILLE — Detectives continue to investigate a fatal shooting during the weekend near a local tavern.
Danville police officers responded to a report around 1:30 a.m. Sunday of a bar fight at Club Deuce in the 600 block of North Vermilion Street. Officers called to the scene were working to quell the disturbance when they were informed shots had been fired outside the tavern.
Officers checking the shots responded to the 700 block of North Vermilion Street and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson confirmed Sunday afternoon that Demaree D. Tetter, 25, of Danville, had been pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. Sunday as a result of the shooting. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
No new additional information was released as of Monday afternoon regarding the shooting as detectives try to determine a motive in the shooting and whether it had a connection to the bar fight officers responded to.
Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said detectives continue to follow up on leads as well as information received from people who were there at the time of the shooting.
He said there is a “lack of cooperative atmosphere” from people there at time time. It is estimated that as many as 200 people at the tavern at the time of the shooting.
No arrests have been made in connection with a fatal weekend shooting along North Vermilion Street.
Tetter and the second man were taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center where Tetter was was pronounced dead. The second man, a 35-year-old, was treated and then transferred to an Urbana hospital for further treatment. His wounds were not considered life-threatening. His name has not been released.
Police stopped a car soon after the shooting and questioned the people inside. Those individuals were released without an arrest.
The shooting is the second homicide in the month of March in Vermilion County and the first of the year inside the City of Danville.
