DANVILLE — Investigations continue in the shooting death of a Hoopeston man Sunday night.
Forty-year-old Bruce Eldridge was shot and killed Sunday night at the Downtown Motel in Hoopeston. Officers responding to a report of shots fired discovered Eldridge in a room next door to the one he was living in.
A release issued Tuesday by Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson confirmed the gunshot wound was the cause of death for Eldridge.
No additional information regarding the fatal shooting was available for release on Tuesday, according to Hoopeston Police Chief Mark Drollinger.
According to police, witnesses indicated potential suspects were seen fleeing the area on foot and then in a vehicle.
The murder is the first of the year in Vermilion County and the first in Hoopeston since 2009.
