Volunteers sought for NJCAA tournament

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College and the City of Danville will again host the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Men’s National Basketball Tournament at the DACC campus March 15-19.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the tournament and the 18th year DACC has played host. The tournament has expanded from 12 to 16 teams that play during five days with 26 games.

Volunteers are needed for afternoons and evenings to work in the concession stand, audio/visual, tickets, souvenir sales, hospitality and information. Community volunteers receive free admission to the games for the volunteer and his or her immediate family, hospitality room privileges, tournament wear and the honor of representing Vermilion County to the visitors who attend the tournament.

The top eight teams will be seeded by the Division II Men’s Basketball Committee via teleconference once all district champions are determined. The remaining eight teams will be placed on the bracket by blind draw. Each college will play a minimum of two games in the tournament. Teams playing more than two games will determine first through eighth place.

Game times are:

--Tuesday — 9 and 11 a.m. morning session; 1 and 3 p.m. afternoon session; and 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. evening session.

--Wednesday — 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. afternoon session and 6 and 8 p.m. for evening session.

--Thursday —9 and 11 a.m. morning session; 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for the afternoon session; and 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. for the evening session.
