Healthy kiosk hits store

DANVILLE — The HALO Project’s Women Aware Committee and County Market will offer the “Fast & Easy Healthy Food Kiosk” at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Mall County Market.

The free event features food tasting and demonstrations, store tours and prize giveaways. Participants should meet in the County Market Café near the front of the store. Seating is limited. No registration is required.

The “Diabetes and Heart Healthy Cookbook” will be available for a $5 donation. For more details, call director Kathy Richard at 442-6587.

DDI accepts toys for drive

Downtown Danville Inc., 149 N. Vermilion St., is accepting toys for the Young Professionals Network’s Toys for Tots drive.

People can drop off toys by Tuesday. Those who cannot make it during regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday can have DDI pick up the toys. Call 443-3886.

Chocolate fundraiser set

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County hosts its second “Big Chocolate Obsession” at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cook’s Workshop, 38 N. Vermilion St.

The event kicks off Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2013 with an evening of chocolate delights and food provided by area restaurants and bakers. Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the group’s only major fundraiser of the year.

A $5 donation at the door is encouraged. There will be a drawing for a flat screen TV. Drawing tickets are $5. Purchasers need not be present to win. For details, call 446-6601.

Workshop scheduled

The Danville Human Relations Commission will sponsor a landlord/tenant workshop from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the City Hall council chambers, 17 W. Main St.

This workshop is for anyone interested in eviction procedures, rights and obligations, code enforcement and fair housing. The workshop is free. With questions, call 431-2280.

Smart Choice food offered

The Rock Church, 20 Poland Road, will offer Smart Choice Food Source.

A box of Smart Choice Food is $36, which includes a lot of frozen meat with a value of $80.

  • Police investigate shooting report

    DANVILLE — City police investigated reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Moore Street about 6:30 p.m.

    Preliminary reports had as many as three people with gunshot wounds. Ambulances were called to assist two of the people with wounds to the leg and one with a chest wound.

    The investigation continued Friday evening.
