Medical clinic slated for CiCi’s

DANVILLE — A medical office will occupy the former CiCi’s Pizza building at North Vermilion Street and Poland Road.

An auction occurred at the site Thursday to sell all the pizza business equipment.

According to Danville Planning and Zoning Manager Chris Milliken, Bayview Family Clinic of Champaign purchased the building in April. Plans are to open a medical office there, he said.

Fidelis Okeke, who is involved with the project, originally looked at opening a pharmacy/medical clinic on South Gilbert Street a few years ago.

In 2008, the city council approved Okeke’s request, with Feddco Inc. doing business as Health Mart Pharmacy and Urgent Care Clinic, for a special-use permit to construct and operate a pharmacy at 307-309 S. Gilbert St.

That property is adjacent to Quick Pools & Spas and across from Long John Silver’s, in the B-2, highway business, zoning district. The building would have been about 3,000 square feet.

Aldermen then questioned parking and traffic flow, wanting city officials to make sure there would be no backups onto Gilbert Street or other problems.

Okeke said that site never worked out.

The pharmacy was to sell prescriptions, over-the-counter medications such as cold medication, and some other general merchandise. Hours proposed were 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday ant 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Okeke said he’s still studying the Danville area to see what type of medical care is needed in the area, such as for urgent care.

“The intention is to get the (pizza business) equipment out of there and get it cleaned out,” he said.

Then, decisions will be made about what type of medical care would be there, such as for younger or older persons, he said.

Okeke said this site has more space for the medical service and customers.

CiCi’s Pizza, 3595 N. Vermilion St., closed in 2008 after a three-year run. The building is 4,600 square feet.
