Council approves fund loan

Highway department down $11,180 at EOY

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Fountain County Council approved a temporary loan for a fund that was scheduled to finish in the red at the end of the year Monday.

Council President Ron Howard said the local streets and roads fund of the highway department will finish $11,180.51 in the red.

The council approved loaning the fund the money from the cumulative bridge fund. It must be paid back by March 15, which Auditor Colleen Chambers said should not be a problem.

In other business, councilmen:

- Learned that the State Board of Accounts had criticized the spending of $27,490 during the last three years from the 911 fund for uniforms, office supplies and technology.

- Approved additional requests of $4,771 in the chief probation officer fund, $2,439 in the administrative assis-tant/probation fund and $3,341 in the second probation office fund for the 2008 circuit court budget.

- Approved additional requests of $21,000 in the care of wards in institutions and $36,000 in the preservation services for the 2008 Family and Children budget.

- Transferred $830.61 from taxing clerk and $3,741`.91 from office supplies to computer maintenance in the auditor’s 2008 budget.

- Transferred $500 from wages-vacation and sick and $95 from landscaping to utilities in the courthouse budget.

- Transferred $90.30 from uniforms and $15.83 from repairs and maintenance to wages-vacation and sick in the jail budget.

- Transferred $111.15 from telephone to clerical and $87.44 from telephone to Social Security in the Emergency Management budget.

- Recognized Howard and Jim Robinson for their 12 years of service on the council. Neither sought re-election this year.

Town council sells police car

The town council sold its old police car on eBay for $3,500.

In other business, trustees:

- Approved $1,000 for attorney and accounting fees for proposed ethanol plant north of town.

- Passed an ordinance to prevent extension cords being run from one property to another.

- Approved a contract with Brook Septic of Williamsport at $1,000 per septic tank, as needed.

- Kept the same officers for 2009. Mike Jackson is president; Harry Foust, park and streets; and Cindy Williams, water and sewer.

Village board approves levy

The 2008-09 annual tax levy in the amount of $93,663.l5 was approved. This is an increase of $4,460 more than last year.

In other business, trustees:

- Adopted an ordinance controlling and regulating obstructions or encroachments of public property and rights-of-way in the village.

- Approved the holiday calendar for 2009. It will stay the same as last year.
