Tilton board approves new TIF district

TILTON — The Tilton Village Board approved a new Tax Increment Financing district in the village on Thursday night.

The district will be called TIF II and covers an area from the N&S Railroad tracks on the south to the current TIF I district on the east and to the village corporate limits on the west.

Also on Thursday night, Mayor David Phillips announced that a portion of14th Street is open for limited local traffic only from Tilton Road to Fifth Street.

“This portion of 14th Street was opened today (Thursday) for limited use by area residents,” Phillips told the board. “It is posted 20 miles per hour and it is still an active construction zone.”

The board heard from John McBride of ERH Enterprises of Westville about the status of the joint construction project between ERH and the village.

The joint project is installing 2,400 feet of 18-inch force main and installing a new lift station. The new lift station is located on Mayfield Street between Linden Street and I-74. The project also included replacing the two 10-horsepower pumps at the 13th Street lift station with two 20-horsepower pumps.

According McBride, the new lift station will be used to slow down the velocity of the waste flow so it doesn’t overwhelm the treatment plant.

McBride also stated in his report that the current treatment plant, which was built in the 1950s, is well within compliance of current Environmental Protection Agency regulations and that it has room for some village growth.

In other action, the board:

--Approved a payment of $22,565 to Central Illinois Tile Company of Champaign for work on the Coachlight Mobile Home Park sewer project. So far, Central Illinois has installed 2,400 feet of sewer line, 1350 feet of lateral sewer lines, 11 manholes and 47 sewer cleanouts.

--Approved payment of $6,120 to Gleisner Engineering of Danville for engineering work on the Coachlight project. Joe Gleisner of Gleisner Engineering said the Coachlight project is 90 percent completed and has gone into a winter shutdown. The project will be finished in the spring.

--Approved the appointment of Steve Cornett as police chief upon the retirement of current Police Chief Mike Schull on Jan. 1.

--Approved the promotion of Greg Phillips from part-time police officer to full-time police officer.

--Approved Christmas bonuses for village employees. Full-time employees will receive $200 and part-time employees will receive $100.

--Approved a payment of $300 to the Illinois Department of Central Management to participate in a program to allow the village to purchase surplus military equipment for the police department.

Phillips thanked everyone who assisted with the senior dinner and particularly thanked the public works employees for cleaning up the public works garage so the dinner could be held there.
