A young driver involved in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon was behind the wheel illegally, police said.
A 15-year-old girl was driving a 1997 Cadillac that collided with an oncoming car along North Bowman Avenue just north of Winter Avenue. The girl, two passengers in her car and both people from the other vehicle were taken to the hospital.
Capt. Dennis Wood of the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department said the 15-year-old girl was issue a citation for driving without a license as a result of the crash as well as improper lane usage. In addition, a passenger in the vehicle — 18-year-old Tyler Miller — was cited for allowing an unauthorized person to drive.
Four of the five injured in the accident were taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center before being transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. The 15-year-old driver was transported by Lifeline helicopter.
