Pharmacy plans haven’t disappeared

DANVILLE Construction on a planned pharmacy on South Gilbert Street likely now won’t occur until next year.

Danville Code Enforcement Manager Rodney Buckham said the project can proceed with a building permit and registered contractor.

A contractor started registering with the city, but hasn’t completed the process yet. Also, a building permit still is needed, he said.

In the meantime, city concerns have been addressed regarding landscaping, drainage and storm water detention and getting a state permit for an entryway off Gilbert Street, Buckham said.

Danville Planning and Zoning Manager Chris Milliken said site plans came back in July/August that were reviewed and returned for revisions.

Milliken doesn’t think the developers were in too big of a hurry. He believes they are holding off until spring to start con-struction.

The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission and city council in February approved a special-use permit requested by Feddco Inc./doing business as Health Mart Pharmacy and Urgent Care Clinic to construct and operate a pharmacy at 307-309 S. Gilbert St.

Aldermen questioned parking and traffic flow, wanting city officials to make sure there would be no backups onto Gilbert Street or other problems.

Initial plans called for the new pharmacy and urgent care center to possibly open by this past summer.

The lots are near Quick Pools & Spas Inc., 311 S. Gilbert St., and across the street from Long John Silver’s.

There will be one curb cut onto Gilbert Street.

The pharmacy building will be about 3,000 square feet and include a drive-up window on the northwest side of the building.

Fidelis Okeke, with Feddco, did not return phone calls for comment.

He previously said a doctor would be on staff at the urgent care center.

“We’re not big corporate guys,” Okeke said. “We’re a mom-and-pop pharmacy.”
