Commercial-News

CATLIN A one-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a Fairmount woman.

Doris Castle, 60, of Fairmount, was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. Sunday at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center’s emergency room.

Capt. Dennis Wood with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department said the accident occurred at 2:58 p.m. on the Catlin-Homer Road, approximately one mile west of McGee Road.

Castle was driving a 2006 Chevrolet and traveling eastbound on Catlin-Homer Road.

Wood said according to Castle’s 11-year-old grandson who was in the vehicle, she fell asleep and the vehicle went off the south side of the road, came back on the roadway, went off the north side and rolled over.

Both were transported to Provena USMC.

Wood said the 11-year-old was conscious and alert.

He was being treated at the hospital, according to Coroner Peggy Johnson.

Initial reports indicate neither were wearing seat belts.

Wood added that there was a witness to the accident.

The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the crash.
