Georgetown approves tax levy

GEORGETOWN — The city council approved the 2008 tax levy Monday night.

The 2008 levy will be slightly higher than in 2007. Aldermen expect to receive $139,316 in revenue from the new levy, which is up from $132,693 last year.

The new tax rate is anticipated to be 68 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation. That means the owner of a $60,000 house in Georgetown will pay around $136 to the city in taxes next year. The EAV is expected to be around $20,585,430.

Aldermen also approved the 1997 bond abatement Monday, which is a requirement each year. The action assures that the money required to pay back the bond issue will be there in the coming year.

The bond issue was taken to help pay the city’s matching grant portion of the south water tower project.

In other business, aldermen:

--Approved a contract with Siemens Water Technologies from Rothschild, Wis., not to exceed $5,008.

The contract includes the purchase of an air valve for the tertiary sand filter at the sewer plant that lets water in and out, which has not been working properly. Between $2,600 and $2,800 of the contract will be for a serviceman to install and go through the entire filter to try to pinpoint any problems.

--Purchased two sets of five-row, 50-seat aluminum bleachers for the park from BSN Sports Collegiate Pacific of Dallas, Texas, for $8,800. They will be placed at the ball diamond near the new restrooms and will be bolted on a concrete pad by city workers.

--Purchased a table caddy and four chair caddies for the community center for $1,092 from Direct Adirondack of Long Island City, N.Y.
