Ridge Farm approves tax levy

STAFF REPORT

RIDGE FARM The village board adopted the annual tax levy of $98,335.65 for the year beginning May 1, 2009, and ending April 30, 2010.

The levy did not exceed a 5 percent increase over the prior year's extension, therefore, a hearing will not be held.

In other business, trustees:

-- Voted to give full- time and part-time employees a Christmas bonus.

-- Learned a new part-time officer, Matt Smith, will work for the Ridge Farm Police Department.

HUME

Shiloh looking at next year’s cuts

The Shiloh School Board is looking at several cost-saving items for 2010-11.

These include:

-- Eliminating two grade school teaching positions.

-- Reducing music positions to one position.

-- Cutting special education classes.

-- Eliminating high school special education classroom aide.

-- Reducing speech program to one teacher.

-- Eliminating half-time English position.

-- Eliminating one-on-one aide.

No decisions have been made.

In other business, board members:

-- Received a quote of $4,500 to replace the football field fence.

-- Hired Mary Kay North, half-time home economics teachers; Daniel Hayes, assistant boys basketball coach at the high school; and Troy Eads, volunteer fifth- and sixth-grade boys basketball coach.

-- Renewed the baseball cooperative with Heritage High School.

SIDELL

Board approves school plan

The Jamaica School Board approved the school improvement plan.

In other business, board members:

-- Learned that bid specifications were prepared for new business.

-- Will look at make sports passes similar to Catlin High School.

-- Approved the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program for the fifth grade.

-- Accepted the resignation of Brock Summers as fifth- and sixth-grade girls basketball coach.

CHRISMAN

Board hires basketball coach

The Chrisman School Board hired Lane Good as junior high assistant basketball coach.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Ridge Farm Village Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 in the Wayne Blakeney Community Building at Ward Park.
