ROUNDUP: Police cite businesses for alcohol violations

STAFF REPORT
Commercial-News

DANVILLE City and state officials doled out citations to several local businesses for alcohol violations on Wednesday.

In addition, two places now face state discipline for gambling violations.

The Problem-Oriented Policing Unit and a team from the Illinois Liquor Commission teamed up for a compliance check on a number of local businesses.

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said 22 businesses were visited as part of the check.

Overall, an employee who served the alcohol at each of nine locations was issued citations for illegal sale of alcohol to a minor — Main Package Liquors, 732 E. Main St.; O’Leary’s restaurant, 3540 N. Vermilion St.; CVS, 100 N. Griffin St.; Lincoln Lanes, 107 W. Harrison St.; La Potosina restaurant, 215 S. Gilbert St.; Shovelhead tavern, 12 College St.; The Pub, 12 E. North St.; Dale’s Place tavern, 1217 E. Fairchild St.; and Floyd’s Tavern, 853 E. Fairchild St.

In addition, the liquor commission issued citations against the business itself as a result of the violations.

Thomason said two locations — Dale’s Place and Floyd’s Tavern — also were found to have gambling violations, specifically pay sheets for the gambling machines on the property.

Thomason said both now face state action, including the potential for fines and suspension.

The alcohol citations were issued during a period of almost three hours, with the first coming at 7:46 p.m. and the last handed out just after 10:30 p.m.

A recent detail by Danville police also issued six citations to businesses for illegal sale of tobacco to minors. Main Package Liquors and the CVS on North Griffin Street also were cited in that compliance check.
