Health department offers flu clinics

STAFF REPORT

DANVILLE The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to report sporadic outbreaks of seasonal influenza in Indiana, but to date, there are no indications of flu outbreaks in Illinois.

“That may be one of the reasons people have been slow to get their flu shots this year,” Steve Laker, Vermilion County Health Department administrator, said.

He added the health department has given a little more than 3,000 of the doses they ordered earlier this year.

“We will continue to offer flu shot clinics for awhile longer,” Laker said.

This time last year, the health department had cancelled numerous clinics because flu vaccine was not delivered on time by the manufacturer.

“We are pleased to have sufficient vaccine this year and to have already immunized a large portion of the population most at risk to flu complications,” Laker said. “But now we need to get the healthy adults who make up much of the community’s workforce to get in and get immunized to protect themselves and their families this flu season.”

The next seasonal adult flu clinics will be at the health department’s Danville facility, 200 S. College St.:

-- 8 a.m. to noon, today

-- 8:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday

-- 12:30-4 p.m. Wednesday

-- 12:30-4 p.m., Nov. 14

-- 8:30 a.m. to noon, Nov. 15
