Roundup: Speed might be factor in fatal crash
STAFF REPORT
Commercial-News
Speeding might have played a role in the traffic accident that killed two Georgetown people during the weekend.
Jennifer, 28, and Robert “Robbie” Allen, 35, were pronounced dead at the scene of an accident later Saturday afternoon on Lincoln Trail Road near County Road 200E southwest of Fithian.
Vermilion County Chief Deputy Dennis Wood said preliminary determinations indicate the vehicle, which was driven by Jennifer Allen, appeared to be going at a high rate of speed when Allen lost control of the vehicle, which fishtailed on the gravel road.
The eastbound car, as it turned, was struck in the passenger side by an oncoming fully loaded grain truck carrying soybeans.
It took two hours for emergency personnel at the scene to extricate both Jennifer and Robert Allen, Wood said.
The grain truck driver agreed to toxicology testing at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center following the accident — a standard practice in the case of fatal crashes, Wood said.
