District 118 board sets salaries

DANVILLE Danville District 118 board members approved salaries for administrators and flat-salaried employees for the current school year at their meeting Wednesday.

Board member Dan Brown voted against the administrative salaries and administrative salaries.

Board member Bill Dobbles commented on the methods the district uses to pay its flat-salaried employees.

“I think we have good employees and we pay them well,” he said.

Due to the district’s fiscal diligence, the increases in pay were slight, he said.

“I think that some are out of line and don’t seem to fit,” he added. Their salaries are competitive with those in the private sector, but he wished he could reward those employees with merit pay, such as in the way the district awards administrators.

Dobbles said would like to see those who do an exceptional job get paid well.

Superintendent Nanette Mellen said the district is working to come up with a tool that creates a way to make sure that the flat-salaried employees do get compensated for going beyond the call of their duties.

“We’ll see what we can come up with,” she said.
