Rossville board OKs health insurance

ROSSVILLE — The Rossville Village Board approved a new health insurance plan for village employees on Monday night that will cost the village and the six employees the plan covers more money.

Under the current plan, which is a preferred provider organization plan with Personal Care, employees have a $500 deductible with a 90/10 split on most services. Co-payments are $20 per visit with the PPO’s local provider, Dennis Price, PAC.

The current coverage, which the village pays for entirely, costs the village $1,955 per month.

Under the new plan, which goes into effect Sept. 1, the deductible limit is $1,000 per employee with an 80/20 split on most services. Co-payments with the local provider will increase to $25.

The new plan, which continues with Personal Care, will cost the village $2,353 per month.

The significantly higher premiums were due to a large number of claims according to Jim Crose of the Crose Insurance Agency, who is the village’s insurance agent. Crose said he will rebid the insurance again in November to see if he can obtain a better price.

In other action, trustees:

-- Agreed to advertise a used police car for sale. The car is a 2004 Dodge Intrepid with 93,887 miles on it. The minimum bid for the car is $3,750. Bids will be accepted until Sept. 15.

-- Learned that ERH Enterprises has replaced the sand in the filter at the sewer treatment plant that was contaminated by oil. The village has billed Conagra $10,000 for the sand replacement due to Conagra being the source of the oil coming into the treatment plant.

-- Were introduced to Doug Blair, the new manager of the JBS United — Rossville grain facility. Blair was introduced by Jason Risley of JBS United Inc.

-- Approved a resolution that repealed an ordinance that had made the alley between Chicago and Ann Streets as one-way. The alley will be available for two-way traffic.

-- Discussed an ordinance to allow golf carts on village streets. Mayor Terry Prillaman has been researching how different towns allow electric golf carts to operate on streets with certain restrictions. Prillaman will talk with the village attorney about the matter before it is pursued any further. The trustees seemed generally in favor of the idea with certain operating restrictions.

-- Learned there will be a pre-bid meeting for interested bidders for the water treatment plant bids at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 26. Bids are scheduled to be opened Sept. 2.

-- Agreed to proceed with the downtown sidewalk replacement project. Prillaman will seek estimates for the project. The current budget has $10,000 allocated for the project.

-- Heard from representatives of the Rossville Fire Protection District. The district will have an open house at its new fire station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13. Tours of the new facility will be available as well as food and refreshments. Board members also will be available to answer questions about the proposed tax referendum for the fire protection district.
