Dennis crowned Fountain fair queen

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. —
A Covington High School graduate made her first appearance in the Fountain County Fair Queen Pageant Saturday night a successful one.
Katie Dennis, 19, daughter of Jeff and Diane Dennis Covington, was crowned fair queen from among 18 candidates..
“It is such an honor to represent Fountain County,” she said minutes after getting the hugs of well-wishers.” I will do my best.”
Dennis is the fourth consecutive queen from Covington. She received her crown from Alisha Clawson, last year’s fair queen.
“I look forward to going to the (Indiana) state fair,” Dennis said.
She will be a sophomore at Marian College in Indianapolis, where she is majoring in nursing. She is a cheerleader at Marian, a day camp counselor for Community Action’s park program and a nurses aide at Marian.
A 2007 graduate of Covington High School, she was senior class secretary and a member of the Letterman’s Club, Spanish Club, student council, Students Against Destructive Decisions, VOICE, Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Free Leader and Teens Against Tobacco Use.
She participated in cheerleading, dance, track and cross country.
She is a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville and a volunteer in the children’s ministries program.
She enjoys running, riding bikes, babysitting, vacationing with her family and spending time with her twin brother.
“As an ambassador of Fountain County, I will have the ability to represent not only Fountain County during the fair, but also at the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant,” she said. “I will use my year to educate area residents on the importance of county fairs, as well as volunteer at as many area functions and events as possible.”
Other winners were:
-- First runner-up — Tiffany Ponder.
-- Second runner-up — Elizabeth Ratcliff.
-- Third runner-up — Laci Guyer.
-- Miss Congeniality — Kaylie Crane.
-- Miss Photogenic — Dennis.
Sue Foster, pageant director, said the pageant went well.
“The girls were all great and very intelligent,” she said.
