STAFF REPORT
Commercial-News

DANVILLE The Danville Public Library Children’s Department is taking registrations for its “Make and Take a Saddlebag” craft session.

The session, for ages 6 through 12, will be conducted by Anita Ingram on July 7, beginning at 11 a.m. at the library.

There is no charge to participate but seating is limited.

Children should sign up by stopping by the Children’s Department or calling 477-5225.

The craft session is part of the Children’s Department’s summer reading program, “Celebrating Lincoln in Old Vermilion.”

The program, designed to encourage children to read for fun and to keep their reading skills sharpened while school is out, will run through Aug. 22. Children may sign up any time during the summer.

Children are encouraged to learn more about locations in Vermilion County that Abraham Lincoln visited from 1841 through 1861, as well as read other books of their choosing. Each time they read five books or 200 pages, they will receive a prize.

The Vermilion County Museum has provided materials and giveaways to enhance the reading fun. Children who read 12 books about Lincoln, the Civil War or Illinois history also will be eligible to enter a drawing at the Vermilion County Museum.

Children can come in any time to record their reading experiences, and they can attend any of the special programs that the children’s staff has planned.

The library is located at 319 N. Vermilion St. It is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
