Local Roundup: Fire starts in Westville home

STAFF REPORT
Commercial-News

DANVILLE — Westville firefighters responded to a house fire early Friday morning on the village’s south side.

Westville Fire Protection District Chief Gary Wright said the woman living in the home at 215 Park Street awoke just after 5:30 a.m. today to discover power to the residence was out. She called the fire department after seeing sparks outside a window.

Wright said firefighters arriving on the scene found heavy fire in attic on the east side of the home as well as some flame that had crept to the outside roof. Wright said the fire was contained quickly, with damage to the kitchen ceiling the only problem with the living quarters of the one-story home.

Firefighters from Catlin, Georgetown and Lynch fire protection districts were called in as back up. No injuries were reported and the homeowner had made it out of the home when firefighters arrived on the scene.

A cause of the blaze had not been determined Friday morning, but Wright said he believed the fire was accidental. He estimated damage as roughly $20,000.
