Mayor Eleanor White told trustees Tuesday that the bids for the supplemental Motor Fuel Tax work to be done by the village will be opened at 10 a.m. June 23 and that there would be a special meeting that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. to award the contract for the work.
The supplemental work, which is estimated to be about $20,000, is in addition to the nearly $30,000 of MFT work previously approved.
The MFT work to be done includes street patching and sealing various streets with oil and chips, as well as additional work on Wilson Lane.
In other matters, trustees:
-- Learned White had submitted a grant request for $637,000 for drainage and road repair of Prairie Drive through the Illinois Department of Transportation. IDOT is responsible for awarding money through a $150 million emergency repair program funded by the federal economic stimulus program.
-- White also reminded residents that problems persist with the village recycling bins. The recycler will not accept corrugated cardboard and when it is placed in the recycling bins, the village is responsible for removing it.
-- Heard from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful representative Karel Volpert that flowers had been planted at the entrances to the village by John and Bonnie Bodensteiner on behalf of the Bismarck Women’s Club.
Volpert also informed the trustees that the Bismarck Lion’s Club and Bismarck Women’s Club had nearly finished Phase I improvements to the Lion’s Club Park. The improvements include planting flowers, repairing existing playground equipment and installing new playground equipment. The groups will be putting down playground mulch in the near future and have another work day scheduled for June 20.
Volpert also told trustees that the Women’s Club will sponsor a bounce house at the Fun Day on June 27 and proceeds from that will go toward park improvements.
-- Approved a prevailing wage ordinance.
