Funds to go toward village ditches

CATLIN — The Catlin Village Board heard Tuesday about improvements that will be done later this summer with motor fuel tax funds.

Commissioner Alisa Prosser said preliminary plans call for ditches to be improved in town to improve drainage.

The areas being looked at for improvement are on the south side of Northview Street and on Westwood Street, north of the Catlin High School sports complex.

Work to the ditches includes them being dug out and re-graded.

Prosser said right now it looks like the MFT budget will be focused on the ditch-work this summer, but final plans and estimates will come with a visit from the village engineer at the next meeting in July.

In other business, commissioners:

-- Approved the installation of a quick coupler at the wastewater treatment plant for $1,600 by Illinois Meter. The coupler will allow a ‘T’ to be put on the pumps so they can be drained more easily and safely.

-- Hired Brad Prunkard as the part-time Community Service Supervisor at $10 per hour, which is a position that oversees individuals who are working off their court mandated public service hours within the village. Prunkard also works as a part-time Catlin police officer.

Commissioners approved the appointment with the measure that the combination of the two positions does not exceed 40 hours per week.

-- Purchased trees for $600 from Schultz Nursery of Danville. The village was recently awarded a $300 Keep Vermilion County Beautiful grant, which they matched. The trees will be placed at the park.

The Catlin Village Board canceled its next meeting. The board will meet next at 7 p.m. July 21 at the village hall.
