The Georgetown-Ridge Farm School Board will soon be at full capacity as a new board member was appointed Monday night.
After review, board members chose Cheryl Kestufski to fill a vacant seat on the board. No candidate ran for the two-year term in the recent spring election, but Superintendent Kevin Tate said there were three citizens interested in the position now.
“Almost all the board members knew her and of her involvement with the district,” said Tate of the Kestufski choice.
Tate said Kestufski served as a nurse in the district during the 2008-09 school year and currently has a son who attends Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School. He said she has volunteered with various programs throughout the district.
“She’s a really good person and we’re looking forward to working with her,” said Tate.
Kestufski will be sworn into office at the next board meeting on June 22.
In other business, board members:
-- Hired Linda Rosnett as a math teacher at the high school.
-- Accepted the resignations of Shannon Ellis as math teacher at the high school and Wendy Heron as a teacher at Mary Miller Junior High, both effective immediately.
-- Accepted the retirement of Patty Comstock as teacher at MMJH effective at the end of the 2010-11 school year.
-- Renewed the district membership in the Illinois Association of School Boards at a cost of $3,135.
