Event to help put best face forward

The ingredients to looking one’s professional best will be on display at an open house sponsored by Vermilion Advantage’s Young Professional Network.
The event, Trendy Tuesday, will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Vermilion Advantage’s first-floor conference room, 28 W. North St. Vendors will be selling Jewels by Park Lane, Mary Kay cosmetics and replica designer handbags.
Machelle Dykes, director of business and community services for Vermilion Advantage, said a fellow YPN member asked last month if his mom, who sells Jewels by Park Lane, could do a jewelry show for YPN sometime.
“Quite a few were interested,” Dykes said when she asked members about such an event.
Light refreshments will be served, and Dykes encourages YPN members to bring a friend along.
The show also is a good opportunities for men to shop for a gift or to bring someone along who would like to browse.
In contacting members about interest in the show, Dykes said she also found a couple YPN members who had wares to share, too.
Aya Eneli, a local attorney who serves on the boards of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Rape Crisis Center, will showcase Mary Kay cosmetics at the open house.
Eneli said she started selling Mary Kay in January so she could obtain a discount on the products she uses. But to her surprise, in just a few months, she made enough sales to earn a car — either a maroon Pontiac Vibe or a gray Grand Am G6.
She skipped the car and took a cash option instead; however, she has her sights set on a pink Cadillac.
“I’m having a ball,” she said of selling Mary Kay. “If everything goes as planned, I’ll have my pink Cadillac by August.”
At Trendy Tuesday, Eneli will present the newest Mary Kay products, including 10 new lipstick colors, new fragrances and a men’s skin care line.
“I’m going to have samples, and I’m going to do a couple makeovers,” she said. “I’m going to be showcasing all the new Mary Kay products. It’s the all new Mary Kay. It’s not your grandmother’s Mary Kay.”
Holly Potter of West Lebanon, Ind., who is a friend of a YPN member, plans to bring up to 100 replica designer handbags to the open house.
“I carry eight different brands,” she said. “I usually bring 50-100 handbags to a show — basically whatever I can fit in my car.
“That’s about a quarter of what I have in my home,” she said of her handbag inventory.
She said she plans to bring “new styles and springy colors” to Trendy Tuesday.
Potter said replica designer handbags are an affordable alternative to the real thing.
“I have a lot people who own the real thing, and they can’t tell much difference,” she said.
