Aqua Illinois, Vermilion Division, officials announce the company will replace nearly 12,000 feet of aging water main in five areas.
The replacement projects total approximately $930,000.
Most aging main is cast iron and will be replaced with ductile iron, which is a more pliable substance that is less susceptible to main breaks.
Work is expected to continue through much of the summer months.
While there are no detours in place, there will be lane closures and restrictions during construction hours. Additionally, short-term water outages may occur during construction.
Customers in the affected areas will receive specific notices at the time of the outages.
Construction will take place at:
-- Mauck Lane, Danville Township. Aqua will replace undersized 3- and 4-inch cast iron mains with 2,500 feet of 8-inch ductile iron mains from Batestown Road to about 142 Mauck Lane. Additionally, five new fire hydrants will be added for increased fire protection.
-- Hegeler. Aqua will replace about 2,200 feet of undersized 4- and 6-inch case iron mains with 8-inch ductile iron mains along First Street from Spelter Avenue to the south end of First Street, Walnut Avenue from First Street to Suburban Street and Elm Street from Second Street to Suburban Street. Additionally, Aqua will add nine new fire hydrants. This project will be completed in conjunction with Danville Township.
-- Atwood and Lincoln streets in Tilton. Aqua will replace about 3,400 feet of existing 6-inch cast iron with 8-inch ductile iron mains from 14th Street to Myers Street. Aqua also will replace five fire hydrants and add five new hydrants.
-- Vermilion and Mill Streets, Indianola. Aqua will replace about 2,850 feet of existing 4-inch transite pipe along the entire length of Mill Street and along Vermilion Street from Mill Street to the edge of the city limits. Additionally, Aqua will replace four fire hydrants and add two new hydrants.
-- Truman and Kennedy Courts, Philo. Aqua will loop two existing 4-inch cast iron mains to the water mains located on Eisenhower Drive. Aqua will install about 620 feet of 4-inch high density polyethylene water main, which will improve the water quality for residents living on Truman and Kennedy Courts.
