Police Roundup: State opens Middle Fork River

DANVILLE — The Middle Fork River is once again open to boaters.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources lifted the restriction on the river from the north boundary of the Middlefork Fish and Wildlife Area to the south boundary of Kickapoo State Park, opening it up to the public again.

The river was shut down earlier this week amid concerns about rising water levels. According to the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency, conditions have improved with the waters dropping to an acceptable level.

As with other recent re-openings of the Middle Fork River, officials caution that the river is still higher than normal. And any more rain in the area during the coming days could lead to it being closed once again for safety.

The National Weather Service forecasts call for a chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday night for the Danville and Vermilion County area.

Vehicle burglary in the 200 block of Scott Street, Oakwood.

Tire damaged in the 400 block of East Kelly Street.

Burglary along County Road 2300N, Bismarck.

Burglary along Illinois Route 119, Alvin.

Thursday:

A man arrested for battery at the Sportsman Inn, 140 N. State St., Westville.
