Village officials have received notification from the Illinois Department of Community and Economic Development that Bismarck has received a $150,000 grant for design work and engineering costs for the proposed sanitary sewer system.
The project planning is being done by Kieser Consulting, LLC of Indianapolis and engineering work is being handled by Beam, Longest and Neff Engineering, LLC of Indianapolis.
The village also has received $50,000 from the Illinois Department of Transportation for the closing of the South Street railroad crossing over the CSX railroad tracks. The village also expects another $15,000 in connection with the closing from the railroad company. These funds are earmarked for the village Motor Fuel Tax funds to be used on street maintenance.
In other action, trustees:
-- Learned there were some errors on Election Day with persons who reside in the village not receiving the proper ballot. The county clerk has told village officials the clerk’s office will check voter registration cards against real estate tract numbers this summer to correct any errors. Residents are advised to check their voter registration cards to insure they are voting in the right jurisdictions.
-- Learned from Karel Volpert, village Keep Vermilion County Beautiful representative, that seed packets and litter bags will be passed out to residents during the village clean-up day. There will be three Bismarck students assisting during the clean-up as part of their community service work from Peer Court. Also, Volpert told board members that the Bismarck Women’s Club will take care of planting and weeding the village flower pots and flower beds again this year.
-- Approved the 2009 Motor Fuel Tax budget for street maintenance. The budget was set at $33,859.
-- Approved a proclamation for April 24 to be General Federation of Women’s Club Day.
-- Learned the village rabies clinic will be Saturday from 10 a.m.–11:30 a.m. in the fire training building located east of the post office.
-- Learned that the village clean-up day will be May 9 from 8 a.m.–11 a.m. Any village resident who needs help getting items to the dumpsite can call the village office at 759-7984 to schedule assistance from members of Boy Scout Troop 309. Residents who need assistance are asked to call the office by May 5.
The clean-up is open to Bismarck residents only and the usual rules apply. No garbage, no paint or household chemicals, no yard waste, no concrete or construction materials and no tires. WITS will be there to collect electronic items.
