Bismarck plans improvements

Village will install ditches, add road rock

BISMARCK — The Bismarck Village Board approved a resolution for proposed improvements to Wilson Lane.

The improvements are contingent on receiving easements for a 50-foot right of way from landown-ers along Wilson Lane.

The resolution states that once the village receives the conveyance of warranty deeds from the landowners, the village will spend approximately $12,500 this year cutting and shaping ditches, filling potholes and grading the road.

The village will take over all maintenance on the road as well as provide snow removal.

Tentative plans call for the addition of 8 inches of rock to the road in one year at a cost of $19,000 and to shape the road and put down oil and chip in two years at a cost of $11,000.

The trustees also:

-- Learned that the rabies clinic will be from 10 to 11 a.m. April 26 at the fire station.

-- Set May 8 as village cleanup day from 8 to 11 a.m.

The collection site will be between the coffee shop and the railroad spur.

Only village residents are eligible to dump items. Identification may be required. A sheriff’s deputy will be on duty as well as village officials.

WITS will be there to collect electronic items. A $5 fee for computer monitors will be charged, as well as a $10 charge for TVs.

The village will accept large appliances, household junk and metal items. Building materials will be accepted.

Also this year the village will collect tires for a fee. Auto and light truck tires will be accepted for a $5 charge for each tire, with bicycle and lawn mower tires costing $2 each to dump. No tractor or semi truck tires can be accepted.

-- Voted to take no corrective action regarding a complaint at 204 S. Center St. about poor drainage.

Trustees believe the village did nothing to cause the poor drainage problem.

-- Approved minimal improvements to G Street. This street is the only access to the 11 acres the village recently purchased. At this time the village is only planning to install a culvert, a street sign, a dead-end street sign and remove some trees that adjacent landowners do not remove.

-- Agreed to allow the Bismarck Lions Club to display American flags on the right of way along Holloway Street from May 23 to July 7.

-- Approved a payment schedule for the use of personal equipment by village employees.

-- Approved the purchase of a Stihl weed eater for $300 and a pole pruner saw attachment for $180 from Big R of Danville.

-- Approved the sale of obsolete office copier equipment for best offer. If not sold by May 3, it will be donated to WITS.

-- Approved the appointment of Karel Volpert as Keep Vermilion County Beautiful representative for the village.
