Police Roundup: Middlefork River reopens

DANVILLE — The state and county have lifted boating restrictions on the Middlefork River in Vermilion County.

The announcement, which came late Thursday morning, is the second time in as many weeks that a section of the river has been closed because of rising levels.

According to officials, conditions have improved, however, the river is still higher than normal.

The river was shut down on earlier this week by officials, who look at conditions ranging from rising waters to water temperatures and future rain possibilities.

More rains, which are forecast at this point for the weekend, could cause the Middlefork to rise again.

Here’s a look at recent law enforcement calls:

Danville

Tuesday:

Disorderly conduct in the 100 block of North Gilbert Street.

Wednesday:

Burglary in the 1000 block of Holiday Drive.

A man arrested for obstructing an officer at Seminary and Crawford streets.

A man arrested for resisting arrest, obstructing an officer, assault, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct at the Uptown Tap, 625 N. Vermilion St.

Property damage in the 1000 block of Giddings Street.

Jewelry, camera and other items stolen in a burglary in the 700 block of East South Street.

Set of keys stolen in the first block of North Washington Street.

Theft in te 1800 block of East Main Street.

Disorderly conduct in the 1200 block of North Walnut Street.

A man arrested or obstructing an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in the 1300 block of Parkview Drive.

Thursday:

Burglary and property damage reported in the 2300 block of North Vermilion Street.

Vermilion County

Wednesday:

Aggravated battery reported at the Black Bear Inn, 1902 W. Williams St.

Cellular phone stolen in a vehicle burglary in the 500 block of South Oakwood Street, Oakwood.

Vehicle damaged in the 1800 block of Mill Road.

A man arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia along South Long Road.

Graffiti reported at BP Gas, 3910 N. Vermilion St.

Thursday:

A man arrested for possession of meth precursors and possession of meth manufacturing materials along County Road 990E, Potomac.

Accidents involving tickets or injuries include:

Wednesday, 4:42 p.m. – At Bowman Avenue and Harrison Street involving Tammy Johnson, 35, of Austin, Texas, and Teresa Truelove, 52, of Georgetown. Johnson was cited for failure to yield.

Firefighters responded to the following calls:

Wednesday, 7:39-8:37 p.m. — An illegal burn at 418 Martin St.

Wednesday, 8:29-8:41 p.m. — A medical call in the first block of South Street.

Wednesday, 10:46-10:54 p.m. — A medical call in the 900 block of Campbell Lane.

Thursday, 12:26-12:42 a.m. — A medical call in the first block of East English Street.

Thursday, 3:13-3:33 a.m. — A medical call in the 600 block of Pixley Street.
