Seeger campus may get wind turbine

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Before long a wind turbine could provide the power for Seeger Memorial High School and Warren Central Elementary School.

The Warren County School Board heard a report Monday night from Performance Services of Indianapolis. A test site indicates that the schools are excellent sites for the wind turbine, which would provide a considerable energy savings.

¡§We are negotiating for land,¡¨ Superintendent Ralph Shrader said, adding there is not enough space for it on school-owned land.

In other business, board members:

-- Agreed to have Pine Village Elementary School hook on to the town sewer system when it is installed.

-- Accepted the retirements of Lowell Rademacher, assistant principal at Seeger, and Greg Doland, special education teacher at Seeger.

-- Hired Rob Beckett as dean of students at Seeger and Dava Reberger as special education teacher at Seeger and Warren Central.

-- Learned the Bi-County Opportunity Center will close at the end of the school year.

WEST LEBANON, IND.

Patriot Festival needs some help

The town council learned Monday night that the Patriot Festival organizers are seeking more volunteers to help with the Sept. 25-27 event.

The festival is asking that High Street (Indiana Route 263) be closed from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 for the commode races and parade.

In other business, the council:

-- Agreed to work with the Warren County Local Economic Development Organization in applying for federal stimulus money. LEDO will pay for half the cost for the required income surveys needed to apply.

-- Informed youth baseball league organizers the council would provide $500 for work at the park and diamond.

-- Set the town cleanup for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT May 9, with a drop-off site set up beside the town garages near the railroad.

-- Agreed to investigate complaints over properties on Fourth and Clinton streets.

COVINGTON, IND.

School board OKs settlement

The Covington School Board approved the settlement agreement with curriculum specialist George Irvin Monday night.

Irvin has been doing curriculum work for the school corporation for about a year under a three-year contract. The settlement ends his contract with the corporation June 30, 2009. Baker said the settlement will save the corporation around $100,000 by ending the contract two years early.

In other business, board members:

-- Approved McMillan/McGraw Hill as the publisher for the social studies textbooks for the elementary school. This adoption will cover the next six years.

-- Approved Prentice Hall as the publisher for the social studies textbooks at the middle school.
