A local man died Sunday following an early morning traffic accident near Alvin.
The 38-year-old Danville man was pronounced dead by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.
The name of the driver was being withheld this morning by the county coroner’s office pending the notification of his next of kin.
The driver and a teenage passenger were headed eastbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Illinois Route 119 near the viaduct when the accident occurred.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Dennis Wood said the vehicle went off the road to the north, striking a utility pole.
Wood said the impact caused the vehicle to roll several times, ejecting the driver.
The passenger, a 17-year-old, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Wood said the passenger walked from the scene to a nearby rural home where the residents contacted law enforcement. The passenger then returned to the crash site.
The accident remains under investigation.
