DACC considers tuition increase
Amount of hike smaller than last year

DANVILLE —
Danville Area Community College trustees will vote on a tuition increase at their meeting Tuesday.
At their Feb. 26 meeting, trustees discussed the proposed increase.
Currently, tuition is $68 per credit hour, with a $10 fee per credit hour. The $6 increase would make tuition $74 per hour. The increase is slightly lower than last year’s increase of $7.
The additional tuition revenue would bring in about $244,200 to the college.
At the meeting DACC President Alice Jacobs said the college has done all it can to keep costs as low as possible, including cutting 20 staff positions in the last five years. State funding has remained basically level for the last 12 years.
But the 2009 fiscal year may actually show less state funding, as the college is no longer eligible for a “smaller small college” grant that had amounted to $60,000. Previously, DACC had been receiving about $120,000 per year from the grant.
The board will vote on the increase this week, and if approved, it would be effective beginning in the summer session.
In other business, the board will:
--Consider a tuition rate for sonography program.
--Consider sanding, painting and refinishing the Mary Miller Gymnasium floor
--Consider constructing a garden gateway entrance.
COMING UP
The next regular meeting of the Danville Area Community College board of trustees will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday,in the DACC Board Room, Vermilion Hall 302.
