Police roundup: Man dies in late-night crash

DANVILLE — A rural man was killed in an early morning traffic accident on Henning Road.

James Brown, 51, of rural Danville was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson.

The one-vehicle accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday approximately ¼ mile north of 2400N on Henning Road.

Vermilion County Sheriff’s Capt. Dennis Wood said Brown was driving south in a 1995 GMC pickup truck when the vehicle left the roadway to the east, running through a ditch and fence and into a pasture.

The truck overturned at least once, ejecting Brown from the vehicle, Wood said. He died due to massive injuries.

There were no witnesses to the crash and the incident remains under investigation.

A woman arrested for retail theft at the Hair Cuttery, 2603 N. Vermilion St.

Property damage in the 100 block of East 14th Street, Tilton.

A digital camera stolen in the 200 block of Barbara Drive, Oakwood.

Thursday:

A 2000 Oldsmobile Alero stolen in the 100 block of East Washington Street, Fithian.

Accidents involving tickets or injuries include:

Tuesday, 6:40 a.m. -- At Seminary and Washington streets involving Christine Switzer, 56, of the 1400 block of East Fairchild Street. She was cited for improper lane usage. Switzer was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.
