Hoopeston tables deactivation agreement

HOOPESTON — The Hoopeston Area School Board tabled the Tri-Party deactivation agreement Thursday night to clear up some language issues.

Superintendent Hank Hornbeck said the original agreement was for 90

percent of the average audited tuition. The present agreement was 95 percent of

the average tuition. Bismarck-Henning school board has already approved the

agreement. Rossville-Alvin and Hoopeston Area still must approve it.

"We need to have some things clarified," said Hornbeck. "Get our ducks in a row."

The agreement is a part of the deactivation of Rossville-Alvin High School, which sends its students to Hoopeston Area and Bismarck-Henning.

In other business, board members

-- Approved the high school dean of students position description and evaluation instrument and the 2009 summer migrant school.

-- Purchased a 2010 29-passenger bus and 70-passenger school bus for $89,673 from Ponder Transportation.

-- Learned that the county common calendar and profession development day for 2010 would be the same as this year.

-- Gave the New Beginning Church permission to use the high school from 8 am. to noon Sundays until a permanent home could be found.

-- Learned that a partnership between Danville Area Community College, the Regional Office of Education, the county high schools, Vermilion Vocational Education Deliversity System, Vermilion Advantage and Vermilion Heathcare Foundation plan to form an Elpis Middle School at DACC. The goal of the college is to increase the graduation rate in Vermilion County by 25 stu-dents annually.

"All Vermilion County schools are on board," Hornbeck said.

-- Learned that the soccer agreement with Bismarck-Henning has been signed.

-- Learned that the high school will receive new textbooks for Algebra, Algebra II

and Geometry next year. Maynard said the school is also looking at adding phsyixs

and a second foreign language, possibly German, to the curriculum.

-- Approved the retirement of following staff effective at the end of the 2008-09

school year: JoAnn Barracke, Maple Title I; Darrell Brown, director of

transportation/building and grounds; John Brown, high school English; Keith Dillman, middle school history/study hall; and Regina Sollars, John Greer fifth grade.
