Seeger names new superintendent

District promotes Shrader to top spot

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Ralph Shrader is the new superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Warren County.

The school board promoted Shrader from the assistant superintendent's position Wednesday night. Schrader will assume the position on July 1.

He replaces Terry Roderick, who announced his retirement last month.

Shrader was principal of Seeger Memorial High School for three years before becoming assistant superintendent last year.

He is a former teacher and coach at Attica.

In other business, board members:

--Learned from Tony Kuykendall of Performance Services Inc. of Indianapolis that a test wind tower will be installed at the Seeger site with the $35,000 Indiana Department of Energy grant to collect wind speeds for a year.

The data will help administrators and board members determine whether it would be beneficial to install a wind turbine to provide energy for Seeger.

--Set kindergarten roundups for 9-10:30 a.m. EDT April 2 at Williamsport and Warren Central elementary schools and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 3 at Pine Village Grade School.

--Approved the Project Lead-the-Way curriculum, a pre-engineering program.

--Accepted the resignation of Dee Roderick as director of the Warren County Learning Center.

--Declared April 11 a school day, since classes were canceled Feb. 1.

WEST LEBANON, IND.

Park gym is now free of asbestos material

The town council learned this week that the former West Lebanon High School gymnasium at Heritage Park is now free of asbestos.

Current plans call for the town to use it as a storage area instead of tearing it down.

In other business, council members:

--Will have the town attorney look into the possibility of an ordinance forbidding the driving of vehicles on grassy alleys.

--Will send letters to homeowners of properties that need to be cleaned up or the town will charge them.

--Will provide a secured area at the town hall for Marshal Randy Griswold.

--Learned the town won its small claims suit with Earthtec of Geneseo, Ill., who severed a town line while working in the area.

--Approved a resolution that will allow homeowners to purchase flood insurance if they wish.

--Approved a mutual aid agreement with the fire department.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warren County School Board will meet at 4 p.m. EST March 3 at the administration building. Most of the meeting will be in executive session for evaluations with building principals.
