Police Roundup: VMEG makes pot bust

DANVILLE — Drug enforcement officers confiscated drugs worth several thousand dollars during a bust on Thursday.

Members of the Vermilion Metropolitan Enforcement Group entered the home at 709 Harmon Ave. just after 8 a.m. Thursday, according to VMEG director Steve Guess.

Inside the home, officers discovered almost three pounds of marijuana with a street value of $10,000, Guess said.

One man was arrested as a result of the bust: Kenneth O’Banion Sr., 44, of 709 Harmon Ave. He was booked at the Public Safety Building on charges of possession of 500-2,500 grams of cannabis and delivery of 500-2,500 grams of cannabis. His bond was not immediately set.

Guess said several other people in the home were taken into custody for questioning and subsequently released.

Guess said the arrest and confiscated marijuana are the result of a month-long investigation.

$21 in gasoline stolen at Mobil Super Pantry, 610 S. Bowman Ave.

Forgery at Main Package liquors, 732 E. Main St.

Retail theft at Sears, 2917 N. Vermilion St.

Battery at Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 4101 N. Vermilion St.

A man arrested for burglary in the 100 block of South Crawford Street.

Friday:

A man arrested for possession of a registration sticker from another vehicle at Franklin and Williams streets.

Vermilion County

Thursday:

Disorderly conduct and assault reported in the 300 block of Spelter Avenue.

Property damage in the 400 block of South Scott Street, Oakwood.

A gun and money stolen in the 16000 block of Potterswood Road.

Friday:

A man arrested for disorderly conduct at Long Branch Tavern, 301 Spelter Ave..

A man arrested for aggravated battery in the 16300 block of Clingan Lane, Westville.

Accidents involving tickets or injuries include:

Thursday, 1:26 p.m. -- At 2900 N. Vermilion St. involving Mary Morrison, 79, of Bismarck, and Raymond White, 54, of Danville. Morrison was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Thursday, 12:17-12:29 p.m. — An investigation at 141 N. Vermilion St.

Thursday, 3:39-4 p.m. — An investigation at 1101 N. Gilbert St.

Thursday, 4:31-4:46 p.m. — A medical call in the first block of Bismark Street.

Thursday, 6:40-7:01 p.m. — A carbon monoxide check in the 100 block of Iowa Street.

Thursday, 7:36-7:55 p.m. — An alarm set off by a power outage at 3222 Independence Drive.

Thursday, 10:02-10:11 p.m. — An investigation at 600 N. Collett St.

Friday, 3:01-3:20 a.m. — A medical call in the first block of Bremer Avenue.
