Burgoynes closes in Georgetown

For the Commercial-News

GEORGETOWN David George, president of International Greenhouse Company in Tilton, announced Wednesday the upcoming closure of Burgoynes Floral and Greenhouses. Burgoynes has been a Main Street fixture in Georgetown for 99 years.

“When International Greenhouse Company purchased Burgoynes Floral in 2004 it was our hope to continue the business started by the Burgoyne family in 1909,” George said in a press release. "Unfortunately, the economic downturn has hit the floral industry hard, and Burgoynes has not been immune to this challenging economic environment. “

He added, “Despite our best efforts we are left with little choice but to close the flower shop and focus our efforts and resources on IGC’s core busi-ness of selling greenhouse structures, equipment and supplies from our new location in Tilton.”

IGC recently purchased the former Earl Gaudio and Son building in Tilton and moved its operations to the new facility in August. The greenhouse supply business has enjoyed continued growth and success.

To show appreciation to loyal customers for a century’s worth of support, Burgoynes will have a going-out-of-business sale through January. Customers can take advantage of savings beginning at no less than 50 percent off all stocked merchandise.

“All of us at International Greenhouse Company want to sincerely thank the community for their support of Bur-goynes Floral over the years,” George said in the release.
