Hearts and darts

DANVILLE — Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Landmark Credit Union sends hearts “to all the businesses who have helped with our Backpack Program at Garfield Elementary School. We appreciate the help to feed the children with nutritious snacks for the weekends.

“Hearts go out to these businesses: Dr. Anderson DDS; Arby’s; Robert Boyd, State Farm Insurance; Cahill’s; County Market North; Courtesy Ford; Culligan Water; CVS; Greg Harrison, Perry Jaynes; Polyclinic — Danville; Schroeder’s; Pepsi; Cindy Pridemore; Quaker-Pepsico; Reflections; Robert Randall, Inc.; Todd’s Auto Body; and Timothy Dann’s and Dwight Allen.

“Again, thank you for your donation and making the Backpack Program at Garfield school a success.”

Penny Smith, of Covington, Ind., sends hearts “to the many friends who helped make the benefit held for me a fantastic success.

“To my special friends who organized the benefit, to the many donors of auction items, to the VFW of Covington for the use of the banquet hall, to my Georgetown family for your support, to my Covington family for your friendship, to my Class of 1981 Georgetown High School family for your lifelong friendship, to everyone who attended the benefit, I say ‘Thank you!’

“Words cannot express my gratitude for your kindness. As I continue my road to recovery, please keep me in your prayers. God bless you.”

Faith in Action sends hearts “to all the volunteers who came to rake leaves for seniors on Nov. 3 and Nov. 10 at 23. Several groups worked through rain on the first day.

“Those who helped were from Central Christian Church, Connexion Church, Faith in Action, First Presbyterian Church, Holiday Hills Association, Holy Family Catholic Church, Oakwood High School, Peer Court, Schlarman High School, Sisters of Grace, St. James United Methodist Church, Sunrise Rotary and Vermilion Heights Christian Church.

“Additional hearts to the Faith in Action wheelchair ramp building team. The team members completed 25 ramps this year. Faith in Action was able to pay for materials through a grant from A.L. Webster and Herr Family Foundation, donations from Central Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Ridgeview Baptist Church, Thrivent Financial (Immanuel Lutheran) and proceeds from Festival of Trees and from several individual donors.

“Faith in Action’s volunteer ramp building team includes: Bob Cassity, Ron Colwell, Nick dePlace, Lewis Farnsworth, Gail Garner, Don Hendricks, Hermann Kreidl, Don Quick, Pete Rudolph and Gary Swank.

“Faith in Action is an outreach ministry of Provena (Presence) United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation serving seniors adults 60 years and older in Danville and southern Vermilion County.”
