Today's radical right would probably call Lincoln an appeaser or a "RINO" -- Republican in Name Only. Today's radical Republicans are quite the opposite in ideology, if not in temperament, of the originals.

---- — No one is better than another

Editor:

I’m hearing that racial tension is beginning to build up again. Why? Can’t we learn and grow up?

No one is better or more privileged than anyone else because of skin color, not even the president.

I refer you back to President Richard Nixon. When he became linked up with the Watergate scandal, he graciously resigned. I think he said something about not wanting the nation to get dragged through the mess, and that it needed to move on and take care of necessary business. He cut the cord between himself as president and the people, and the nation moved on. It’s not the skin color that counts; it’s the attitude of the person inside that skin. This attitude kind of sticks out all around them like an aura.

There are three things that we all have in common. In the King James Bible in Acts 17:26, it says we are all made of one blood. We have different types of blood, but it’s still human blood.

In Ecclesiastes 1:9 it says history is repeated and repeated, and there is nothing new under the sun. We are good at repeating the negative, ugly side of history. Some people cannot let go of this ugly side and keep pushing it into the future.

There is only one time in history since the flood that I can think of something new under the sun taking place. That’s when Jesus was born.

The third thing we have in common, and the most important thing, is a spirit. I’ll leave it at that.
