DACC offers adult education
National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is Sept. 23-27. Nationally, economic and demographic changes are dramatically increasing the need for adult education, literacy and English as a Second Language programs.
To address the scope and diversity of need for adult education and literacy skills by both individuals and employers requires a strategy involving a variety of providers. Danville Area Community College offers GED Review, English as a Second Language, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and the Reader’s Route and Tutoring program.
Millions of Illinoisans lack the literacy skills and/or educational credentials they need to obtain good jobs and to function well in our increasingly complex society.
Immigrants have come to this country seeking a higher quality of life, yet many of them do not have the English literacy skills to enable them to meet social, educational and work demands.
There is a direct correlation between higher literacy levels and higher income, numbers of weeks worked, children’s success in school and individual and family health.
DACC is a proud adult education and literacy provider, and we are thankful to the partners who help make this possible: Our teachers, our administration, the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), local agencies and employers, and our many volunteers.
As we go into this week, please remember how important education is to the economic and generational growth of our community.
