Turn your world around

Turn your world around

This is an open invitation to all those people who are caught up in the mixed-up, less-than-perfect world we live in. This is to all of those who live with their minds set on all of the things they don’t like, don’t have and see every glass as half empty. They might have as much as they need, but they’ve never learned to appreciate it.

Each day is another day of gloom for them, with government leading them down the path of no return. They see no light at the end of the tunnel. They spend each day looking for someone to blame, then talk about their misfortune again tomorrow.

They should take into consideration some of the good perks that surround most of us. While thinking the worst about this country we live in, they should give some thought to the big breakfast many of us eat or the steak dinner we could have this evening.

They don’t give a second thought to their healthy family, their comfortable home, their high-end cell phone, their iPod, computers, the two or three televisions in their home or the extra vehicle parked in their driveway.

Most have not seen or felt any change in lifestyle in the past 20 years or better. The luxuries of our freedom and the blessings we enjoy never seem to come to their minds. There is just nothing good going on in their lives.

Granted, most things have higher prices each passing year. We don’t like it, but we haven’t changed our pattern of living one iota. The casinos are full, professional sports fields and gyms are packed with patrons paying hefty sums for tickets and the athletes are in the seven-figure salary brackets and moving up. Big-name stars in Hollywood and on television are knocking down millions of bucks to act stupid while living in houses that compare to the Mall of America. Our home kitchens are getting lonesome for activity.

  • Join a local veterans' group It was a great honor recently when Bernie Lewellyn, a member of American Post 210 for 50 years, asked for everyone's attention. There were about 125 eating their dinner. After he got it, he said, in his 50 years as a member he had not seen the comman

  • Wrong time for minimum wage hike Wrong time for minimum wage hike Supporters of raising minimum wage, despite good intentions, do not end up helping the ones who need it the most. An example would be a single mother of one child faces a marginal tax rate of 91 percent when her pay

  • Races charge too much Editor: Runners and walkers must beware this summer. Some 5K (3.1 mile) fundraising events will again be way overcharging. Most are put on for good causes, but it’s not a good cause to overcharge people for something they sweat for.

  • Searching for answers Searching for answers Editor: I'm certainly not saying the city's firefighters don't need or deserve an increase of funds, but I would like to better understand why. Why do they feel they need more personnel than the national average of 1.04 per 1000
