Hearts & darts

Here are a few of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Carl J. Carpenter, past commander of Danville American Legion Post 210, sends hearts to some young people in the community.

“I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone that our next generation has some very well-rounded young adults heading in the right direction.

“On Veterans day, I was able to observe the Danville Junior ROTC volunteers assisting at American Legion Post 210. These young men and women were very respectful and helpful in all they assisted us.

“I was very touched to see them as they served our V.A. hospital patients. These older veterans also were grateful for the help, and to see our future look so bright!

“Thanks, Danville Junior ROTC cadets for your great help.”

Faith in Action and Sunrise Rotary send hearts to “all of the volunteers who raked leaves for seniors in Danville on Nov. 2-3.

“Those who participated were from ATA Martial Arts, Central Christian Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Connexion Church, Danville Dashers, Danville High School, Faith in Action, First Presbyterian Church, Genpact, HALO, Leadership Tomorrow, Oakwood High School, Peer Court, Presence Health, Sunrise Rotary and other individuals from the community.

“Faith in Action is an outreach ministry of Presence United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation serving senior adults 60 years and older in Danville and southern Vermilion County.”

Nancy Orlea of Danville sends hearts “to all who helped or participated in the first annual Miscarriage and Infant Loss Rememberance Walk.

“Sadly, many times those who lose a child — especially to miscarriage — are not recognized. But for the mother who has carried that baby, it is as much a loss as any other death. This walk gave these family members a place to gather with others who truly understand.

“Thanks to Sunset for allowing the walk to be held there. Many donors helped to make it successful. Among them are Royal Donut, Cellular One, UPS Store and others wishing to remain anonymous.

“Donations taken that day have been given to a family who recently lost a child and needed help with grave site/marker expenses.

“I had a few short hours with my first great-granddaughter, Zoe, and will cherish that forever.”
